The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has said that it is supplying safe drinking water and the quality is well within standards. In a statement here on Tuesday, the KWA denied reports appeared in a section of the media that it was supplying unsafe water.

Detailing various steps taken by the utility, the statement said raw water drawn from Aruvikkara reservoir was treated at the 72 mld, 86 mld and 74 mld plants through conventional methods such as aeration, flocculation, sedimentation and filtration. Pre-chlorination was adopted for reduction of bacterial load. The treated water was tested in the laboratory attached to the plants.

The functioning of the plants was checked regularly by the field staff and the residual chlorine level maintained. The KWA said its 74 mld plant constructed with JICA aid had ISO certification.
