Warm welcome to Vice-President in Thiruvananthapuram

The Kerala government accorded a warm welcome to Vice-President M. Hamid Ansari in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

He arrived on a special plane at the Indian Air Force airport here at 3.45 p.m. Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley arrived with him on the same flight.

Mayor absent

Mayor K. Chandrika did not turn up to receive the Vice President in pursuance of her party’s decision to boycott the public functions of the Chief Minister. However, Opposition MPs C.P. Narayanan and M.P. Achuthan were present.

Governor Nikhil Kumar, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha P.J. Kurien, Speaker G. Karthikeyan and Ministers P.K. Kunhalikutty, K.C. Joseph and Adoor Prakash were present.
