Former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that he will implead in the petition filed by SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan seeking to quash the FIR listing him as the first accused in the microfinance scam.
In a statement here on Sunday, Mr. Achuthanandan said the case involved duping of several poor women belonging to the Ezhava community. The scam itself was the outcome of a conspiracy hatched by the last UDF government and Mr. Natesan.
The reappointment granted to the managing director of the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation (from where the money for the microfinance initiative was sourced) after his retirement was clear proof for this, he said.
In a veiled reference to Mr. Natesan’s meeting with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the former Chief Minister said the tricks being played by Mr. Natesan would not bear fruit.
He would submit before the court evidence for the illegitimate intervention made by former Backward Classes Development Minister A.P. Anil Kumar.
He called upon the government to maintain heightened vigil against persons who had exploited poor Ezhava women when handling the case.
