At least two instances of focussed violence involving adolescent students were reported separately from two schools in the city in the past one month. A parent had complained to the school authorities and subsequently to the police, last week, that a set of high school students had forcibly “tattooed” an alphabet on the forearm of his son, an eight standard student, using a sharp-tooled study instrument during class hours. The police said they received the complaint several days after the alleged incident.
The other involved a gang of 10 standard students beating a senior student of the same school during recess time. The boy suffered a fracture injury on his jaw, possibly from a helmet blow.
The police have registered two cases in connection with the incidents. Circle Inspector, Museum, T. Mohanan Nair, said the school authorities had promised to investigate and report the matter. A parallel police inquiry was also on. He said the police were going slow in both the cases because they had occurred during crucial period leading to the academic year-end examination. The First Information Reports have been filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, who was the chairman of the Juvenile Justice Board.
SFI seeks action
Students Federation of India (SFI) deplored the attitude of the school authorities and the government for not initiating action against those responsible for the attack on two students in two leading private schools in the city.
The SFI secretariat, in a statement here, said criminal case should be registered against the teachers and Principals who were trying to shield the students involved.
