An exhibition of vintage cars from collectors in southern Kerala will be held as part of the Auto Expo to be inaugurated on Tuesday at the Santhigiri Fest 2012 being held at the Santhigiri Ashram near here.

Vintage models, including a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, a 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe, a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe and a 1961 Volkswagen Beetle, are expected to be major attractions at the expo, a press release issued here on Monday said.

Transport Minister Aryadan Muhammed is scheduled to inaugurate the expo which would also have sales stalls of major auto makers. Help desks of banks providing vehicle loans too will function.

N.S. Vijayakumar, a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation driver, will showcase his private collection of 13 cars and a 1963-model 350 cc Ariel motorcycle.

His collection includes a 1964 Dodge Polara, previously owned by film actor Jose Prakash, and a 1924 Austin 7. Over the years, he has had to dig wells and build roads on contract to finance his passion.

The Austin 7 in his collection has the distinction of being the oldest running vintage car in Kerala, the press note claimed.
