The Thrissur Vigilance Court on Friday ordered an investigation into allegations that the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Calicut University had violated academic regulations, conducted a re-test, and helped a woman student pass the B.Tech. examination.
Vigilance Special Judge V. Bhaskaran issued the order on the basis of a petition filed by V. Stalin, former Deputy Registrar of Calicut University.

The court directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Vigilance), Malappuram, to investigate the allegations and submit a report before July 8.
The petition named as accused Vice-Chancellor M. Abdul Salam, Pro Vice-Chancellor K. Raveendranath, Pro Vice-Chancellor’s personal assistant N.S. Ramakrishnan, and his daughter N.R. Sangeetha.
Complaint
The petition stated that steps were taken in June 2011 by the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor to help Sangeetha, then a student with the Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre, Pampady, who had failed the B.Tech. Electronics and Communications regular practical examinations conducted by the university.
“Instead of complaining to the head of the department, she complained directly to the Pro Vice-Chancellor. The Vice-Chancellor also received in June 2011 a memorandum allegedly sent by a group of students demanding a re-test,” the petition said.
The petition alleged that the memorandum contained fake signatures.
“On June 31, 2011, a meeting of the Syndicate Sub-Committee rejected the demand for a re-test. On August 6, 2011, the Vice-Chancellor received a memorandum reportedly signed by students, demanding a re-examination. It too contained fake signatures,” said the petitioner.
The petition stated that the Vice-Chancellor got a new examination panel constituted, conducted a re-examination and issued mark lists despite opposition from the chairperson of the Board of Examinations, Controller of Examinations and the Pareeksha Bhavan.
