Kerala Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan on Monday ordered the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) to investigate the allegation that the son-in-law of the former Chief Justice of India, K. G. Balakrishnan, had amassed wealth disproportionate to the known and legitimate sources of his income.

The inquiry against P. V. Sreenijan, a high ranking Youth Congress worker and lawyer practising in the Kerala High Court, was ordered on a petition filed by Shamir of Mattanchery.

Achuthanandan's intervention sought

Mr. Shamir sought Mr. Achuthanandan's intervention, saying that in certain quarters political influence was being exerted on both the State and Central governments to thwart a possible anti-corruption inquiry against Mr. Sreenijan.

News reports

He cited news reports accusing Mr. Sreenijan of amassing wealth, including scenic riverside land and costly flats, during 2008-11.
