Residents under the banner of the Vallakkadavu-Vyyamoola Joint Action Council on Saturday took out a rally to the Secretariat to highlight their various grievances. The council wants the government to ally the fears of people about possible eviction of a large number of families as part of the development of the international airport and the shifting of the existing domestic terminal from Shanghumugham.

The council wants the government to take steps to provide drainage pipe line up to Vallakkadavu so that the area benefitted from the sewage treatment plant constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, de-silt the Parvathy Puthanar, reconstruct the bridge at Vallakkadavu, speed up the functioning of the KSRTC bus terminal at Eenchakkal, reinforce the Puthen bridge and the Ponnara bridge and reconstruct the Karali-Vayyamoola bridge.

Expressing solidarity with the protest, traders in and around Vallakkadavu observed a day long hartal.
