VACB asks Thachankary to clarify on uniform pollution test software

July 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) is conducting a preliminary inquiry into the allegation that there is corruption in the Transport Commissioner’s order that all vehicle pollution testing centres use uniform software in the machines that gauge vehicular emissions.

The agency has sent a questionnaire to Transport Commissioner Tomin Thachankary seeking his version in the matter.

The charge

The VACB is also looking into the accusation that the Transport Department had reduced the fine imposed on certain vehicle dealers penalised for extorting money as hidden charges from unsuspecting customers.

Selective reduction

The allegation was that there was corruption in the “selective” reduction of fine.

The Transport Commissioner’s office has denied corruption in both cases. Keltron had decided the software to be used in vehicle pollution testing machines.
