Congress Working Committee member A.K. Antony on Sunday predicted that a united platform against the Bharatiya Janata Party will emerge during the presidential elections.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the centenary of the Champaran satyagraha here, Mr. Antony said the day is not far off when the Communist party of India (Marxist) in Kerala will raise slogans on behalf of his party president Sonia Gandhi.

The CPI(M) leaders in Bengal and Tripura are putting pressure on the Congress to take on the BJP.

The LDF government under Pinarayi Vijayan was a total failure and all sections of the people were suffering because of the ineptness of the government. He did not respond to questions on political developments related to Kottayam district panchayat polls, stating that the State leaders were capable of handling the issue.

Earlier, at the Champaran commemoration function, Mr. Antony said that the party wanted a vibrant rank-and-file and not just leaders. He said it was not enough for party workers to deliver speeches. Efforts should be made to make popular agitations successful. He expressed the optimism of the Congress coming back into the reckoning as electoral setbacks were only temporary phenomenon.
