This year’s Reading Day saw Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom, come up with a unique initiative to encourage the reading habit among its students, called the ‘Little Open Library’ (LOLib).

Exchange of books

LOLib, an open, free and voluntary book exchange initiative, aims at providing a venue for sharing one’s favourite books with the community.

Anyone may take a book from the LOLib, but instead of paying a fee, they are to required to leave a book at the library for someone else’s reading pleasure.

Students will be encouraged to exchange any number of books in this manner. The project was conceived and implemented by S.L. Faisal, librarian of the school, under the guidance of S. Ajayakumar, Principal.

LOLib was inaugurated by Mayor V. K. Prasanth on Monday, along with the Reading Week celebrations at the school.

St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School at Pattom witnessed the flag-off of its Reading Day initiative where 12,500 students will contribute one book each to the school library. Thiruvananthapuram Archdiocese Auxiliary Bishop Samuel Mar Irenios inaugurated the initiative by accepting books from students.

A common reading programme will be organised at the school on June 30. Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan will inaugurate the event.
