The ‘displeasure’ that led to the ouster of S.P. Deepak, Democratic Youth Federation of India leader and Senate member of the University of Kerala, was not that of the Chancellor but that of the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League. The United Democratic Front (UDF) has sullied the office of the Governor by playing decadent politics, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member M.A. Baby has said.
He was inaugurating a Secretariat march and dharna organised by pro-Left organisations here on Friday in protest against the Chancellor’s order revoking the nomination of Mr. Deepak to the Senate.
Mr. Baby said the ouster was but the latest instance of the greed for power of the UDF. In seeking to gain control over each and every institution in the State, the UDF had shown that it set no store by values. It was the previous UDF government that had introduced the concept of nominated Syndicate members. When the previous Left Democratic Front government was in power, it never sought to oust the UDF nominees from any university. It was strange, he said, that the Governor’s order gave no reason for the ouster.
