K.P. Udayabhanu, musician, died at his residence here on Sunday. He was 78.
He is survived by his son, Rajeev Udayabhanu. His wife, Vijayalakshmi, died in 2007.
Mr. Udayabhanu was the nephew of K.P. Kesava Menon, freedom fighter and founder Chief Editor of Mathrubhumi . Mr. Udayabhanu began his career as an announcer in AIR, where he was credited with composing light music and light classical music. He made his debut in film music with the song Enthinithra panchasara in the film Nayarupidicha Pulivalu in 1958.
He won several awards, including the Padma Shri in 2009.
