Thiruvananthapuram: Cab aggregator Uber on Wednesday announced the launch of UberHire in Thiruvananthapuram.
The new service has been launched to coincide with Onam and two years of Uber in the city.
UberHire will allow riders to book day-long trips outside the city. Riders can even hold vehicles instead of making fresh bookings. So, trips to Kollam or Kottayam or to nearby destinations such as Varka, Ponmudi and Thenmala are possible at one go.
The new service was catered to meet the needs of tourists, business travellers, senior ctizens, and working professionals, Nitin Nair, general manager, Uber, Kerala, said.
The tariff would be Rs.11 per km and the waiting charge would be Rs.2 a minute, he said. The minimum fare would be Rs.200. Existing cars would be used for the day-long service, which would be offered only from the city, he said.
UberHire was first launched in the country in Kochi, and has since expanded to five cities, including Thrissur. The company claims 40 per cent of its drops are outside Kochi, with major destinations being Alappuzha, Thrissur, and Kottayam. As many as 12 per cent of its trips were from the airport, Mr. Nitin Nair said.
In India, Uber completes four years this month. It is present in 29 cities and claims to have offered 500 million trips by July this year.
Uber driver partners were present on the occasion.
