At least two civil police officers were injured in a scuffle between undertrial prisoners and policemen escorting them near Attingal on Saturday.
The police identified the injured as Surjeeth and Venu, both attached to the Armed Reserve Police. The police version of the events was that four undertrials, who were being taken to the Attingal court had attacked their police escorts inside the van.
The police said it was not an attempt to escape.
Contractors attacked
A group of manual labourers owing allegiance to a left wing labour trade union allegedly attacked two employees of a builder at Kazhakuttam on Saturday.
The injured persons, Santosh and Sangeeth, were admitted to a hospital with injuries. The police, quoting their complaint, said the workers had demanded an exorbitant amount for unloading cement from a truck. They were allegedly assaulted for not agreeing to the terms set by the trade union.
Traced
The State Police Crime Branch said on Saturday that it has traced a 35-year-old mother and her two daughters, both minors, who were reported missing from their house in Malayankeezhu police station limits since October, 2010.
The local police had registered a man missing case on the basis of a complaint filed by the woman’s husband. The Kerala High Court later, on the basis of his petition, transferred the case to the Crime Branch. The agency said its investigators led by SP, K. K. Ibrahim, traced the woman at Dindigul in Tamil Nadu where she was living under a different identity to avoid her relatives. The mother and children were produced before a magistrate and allowed to go. The police said a domestic dispute had led the woman to abandon her husband and his family.
