Two held with counterfeit currency

The City Police on Saturday arrested two persons allegedly involved in the distribution of counterfeit Indian currency.

Vijayakumar, 48, of Sowparnika, Kallipankulam, Manacaud, and Thomas, 53, of Kizhkkinkaraputhenveettil, Manjavilakom, Neyyattinkara, were arrested from a hotel behind the Swathi Thirunal Music College at Thycaud in the city. The team led by Circle Inspector of Police, Thampanoor, Sheen Tharayil and Sub-Inspectors R. Sivakumar and John Jacob nabbed the duo who were found in possession of counterfeit notes of the denomination of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000.

Mr. Tharayil said the accused operated the racket through mobile phones. Their mobile phones have been confiscated. The police suspect that the fake notes were being provided to Vijayakumar from Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu.
