Two members of an inter-State gang of burglars based in Tamil Nadu were arrested by the city police on Tuesday.
Devarajan, 50, a resident of Kulasekharam, and Prabhakumar alias Pappunni, 35, who hails from Vithura were arrested by a police team led by Circle Inspector, Thampanoor, Sheen Tharayil, and comprising Sub Inspector R. Sivakumar and civil police officers.
Devarajan was arrested while he was on his way to the railway station from Power House Road, with the booty from a break-in. He was planning to go to Tamil Nadu. Prabhakumar was held while attempting to break into a house near a hotel in Thycaud.
Mr. Tharayil said Devarajan used to arrive in the city at night by train, commit crimes, and leave for Tamil Nadu early in the morning. The loot was sold at shops in Tamil Nadu. He is an accused in several cases registered in Aruvamozhi, Karinkal, and Marthandam police stations in Tamil Nadu. Prabhakumar is an accused in robbery cases registered in Neyyar Dam, Vithura, Palode, and Thampanoor police stations.
Injured
A 47-year-old fisherman was injured after the country boat in which he ventured into the sea capsized off the coast of Channankara on Tuesday. Hospital sources identified the injured as Mubarak. He was admitted to the medical college hospital and is out of danger.
