Trolley retrievers to protest on Thursday

May 06, 2013 03:21 pm | Updated 03:21 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Kerala Civil Aviation Workers Congress is to stage a dharna in front of the domestic terminal of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport here on May 9 to protest against the alleged denial of salary to 50-odd trolley retrievers for the past seven months.

The dharna is part of an agitation being chalked out by the union following the violation of the decisions by the company that had taken the trolley retrievers on contract. The decisions were made at a meeting convened by the Central Assistant Labour Commissioner on the direction of Union Minister of State for Labour Kodikunnil Suresh.

M.S. Rawther , president of the INTUC-affiliated union, said the Airports Authority of India should act to solve the problems and intervene to pay salary to the workers. K. Muraleedharan, MLA, will inaugurate the dharna.
