The Abhinaya Theatre Research Centre’s Summer Theatre Festival has arrived in the State capital after successfully staging four women-oriented plays in Kannur, Thrissur, Kattappana, Kottayam, and Kollam over the past one month. The three-day event will get underway at Co-Bank Towers on Monday.
The travelling theatre festival will open with Vijay Tendulkar’s acclaimed play Sakharam Binder . Two plays will be staged on June 11, Savithrikutty and Thirinjeduppu , and the festival will conclude on June 12 with the play Irakalodu Mathramalla Samsarikendathu . The performances will start at 7 p.m. on all the three days.
The four major productions will involve around 65 people, comprising the cast, crew and technicians.
As the titles suggest, the summer festival is focused on women’s issues, each one of them dealing with atrocities committed against women. The actors include winners of META and Sangeetha Nataka Akademi awards.
For a cause
Abhinaya plans to donate the profits from the summer festival to theatre therapy of autistic children.
The project to assist autistic children has been on track for the past few years and is being implemented in association with ICCONS (Institute for Communicative and Cognitive Neurosciences), Shoranur.
