Kasturi Sha is thrilled about her CBSE Class 12 results not only because she topped the Thiruvananthapuram region in Humanities, but also because she has shown that Arts subjects are wrongly perceived to be the resort of those who secure poor marks.

This student of Saraswathi Vidyalaya, Vattiyurkavu, who secured 496 marks out of 500, says she worked to get full marks in all subjects and had hoped to top her choice of stream.

A student of Alan Feldman Public School till Class 10, it was her love for Social Science and support of teachers and former Principal Ben that propelled her to opt for Humanities. The combination of subjects offered at Saraswathi Vidyalaya was also to her liking. “Not many schools give students so many options.”

Her recipe for success is hard work. “I revised lessons taught in school every day. I had tuitions only for Economics. Teachers helped with mock tests and sample papers. I owe them a lot.” Travelling from Chirayinkeezhu to Vattiyurkavu to attend school every day was a challenge. “All teaching and non-teaching staff supported me, not to mention my friends who made the ride less of an ordeal.”

Daughter of Shafi M.N., Principal of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Attingal, and Sheeba M.J., professor of Botany at TKM College, Kasturi, wants to pursue BA in English Literature and go for research. Her parents too were very supportive of her decision to study Humanities. Her younger brother appeared for his Class 10 examinations this year.
