Toddler, two others injured in LPG cylinder explosion in Thiruvananthapuram

Three persons, including a two-and-a-half-year old child, were injured when an LPG cylinder exploded near Azad Nagar under the Poonthura police station limits here on Monday.

The police said that the explosion took place around 5.30 p.m. in the house of one Nizamuddin who sustained minor injuries. His sister-in-law Shahana, 17, and his son, Mohammed Finan, sustained serious injuries.

The condition of Shahana was yet to be termed stable, the police said, adding that the reasons for explosion were unknown. The injured were undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital here.

The police have recovered over 10 cylinders from the house.

The Poonthura police have registered a case and are investigating.

Arrested

Anish, 29, of Aswathi Bhavan, Attipra, was arrested by the Sreekaryam police on charges of attempting to molest three students who were returning to their hostel late on Sunday.

According to the police, Anish had tried to frighten them and assault them by riding his motorbike around them in a reckless manner. One of the students sustained minor injuries as well.

Anish was arrested based on the complaint lodged by the girls.

He was produced before the court on Monday and remanded in judicial custody, said Sheen Tharayil, Circle Inspector, Medical College.

Two held

Two youngsters, Sivaprasad of Vizhinjam and Prabhath of Venpalavattom, were arrested by the Kazhakuttam police on Monday on charges of extortion. The two accused, according to the police, had threatened and forcibly taken around Rs.5,000 and a mobile phone from an engineering student, Chacko, a native of Kollam, on a bylane near Kazhakuttam. Another accused, Amal, is at large.
