The Thycaud Women and Children Hospital will soon get a new “Maternal and Child” block, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs.10 crore.
Construction work will begin shortly and this scheme will be included in the National Health Mission. This was stated here on Wednesday by Health Minister V. S. Sivakumar. He was speaking after inaugurating the renovated KHRWS pay wards and the new microbiology lab at the hospital.
The process related to the tender for the construction of a Rs.1.5-crore infertility clinic at the hospital is progressing well. Also, the construction of a Rs.84-lakh canteen-cum-dormitory complex is also making good progress, Mr. Sivakumar said.
The 28 rooms in pay ward constructed in 1978 have been renovated at a cost of Rs.35.5 lakhs. Across the State, the government has ordered the renovation of 2,016 pay ward rooms in 85 hospitals.
The Health Secretary has been asked to submit a report on toning up the functioning of the KHRWS, Mr. Sivakumar said.
The new microbiology lab has been set up at a cost of Rs.11.4 lakhs and was constructed as part of the Advanced Clinical Research Laboratory system being run by the KHRWS.
