International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) has joined hands Kerala State Chalachitra Academy to launch a three-day film festival in the State. Close to 30 films will be screened from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the YWCA hall here on November 23, 24, and 25.
Titled ‘Our Lives… To Live,’ the programme seeks to highlight the injustices that continue to plague women the world over.
Panel discussions on topics such as forced marriage, moral policing, caste prejudice, mental health, and labour will also be part of the event.
The festival is part of a campaign called ‘One Billion Rising,’ launched by V-Day, an international organisation, as part of their 15th anniversary.
The India Chapter of IAWRT is taking care of the festivities in the country. From the one-minute Dowry: A Social Life to the 92-minute The Sari Soldiers, the films “of courage, protest, and hope” are expected to spread awareness of continuing violence against women, the website of V-Day says.
The selected films will lay emphasis on the experience of Asian women with regard to gender-based violence.
In Kerala, the festival is also being held in Thrissur from November 27 to 30.
