Three police personnel, including a Grade Sub-Inspector, attached to the Naruvamoodu police station have been suspended from service by Superintendent of Police (Thiruvananthapuram Rural) A.J. Thomaskutty after they were allegedly found to be extending support and help to sand-smuggling lobbies.

According to the police, Grade SI Salim, Grade ASI Devapalan and civil police officer Sudheer were suspended from service after Neyyattinkara Circle Inspector M. Anil Kumar found them escorting a lorry smuggling sand on December 17. The CI and his team, acting on a tip-off, found that the three accused were providing escort in a police jeep to help the lorry pass through local check-posts and police checks. The Grade SI and the lorry driver were also found to have been in regular touch over phone.
