The government has plans to start work on the construction of fishing harbours at Chilakoor in Varkala and Valiathura and Poonthura in Thiruvananthapuram.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the current session of the Assembly that investigation and research studies had been taken up for the fishing harbours at Poonthura and Varkala-Chilakoor.
The model studies for the Valiathura fishing harbour had been completed and steps taken to launch environmental impact studies, he said in a written reply to Koyilandy MLA K. Dasan during question hour.
Mr. Chandy said the work on the fishing harbour at Vizhinjam was progressing. He informed the House that a revised estimate was being prepared for the extension of the groins at the Muthalapozhy fishing harbour in Thiruvananthapuram. The extension was recommended by a model study on rectifying the problem caused by the deposit of sand in the basin of the harbour.
He told the Assembly that the government was planning to set up a coastal police station at Poovar.
In a written reply to Kovalam MLA Jameela Prakasam, he said efforts were on to secure the land needed for the purpose.
He informed Neyyattinkara MLA R. Selvaraj that the government had identified land for the construction of a complex at Neyyattinkara to house a police station, the offices of the Circle Inspector, Deputy Superintendent and a traffic unit. Mr. Chandy said the proposed complex would come up at the site of the old Armed Reserve Police camp. He said the government was examining the possibility of utilising the police modernisation programme to fund the project.
In a reply to Vamanapuram MLA Koliyakode N. Krishnan Nair, Mr. Chandy said efforts were on to transfer the land required for the construction of a new building for a police station at Ponmudi.
The Chief Minister told Nedumangad MLA Palode Ravi that the land required for the construction of a police station at Nedumangad had been transferred to the Home Department. He said the construction work would commence only after relocating the Village Office functioning from an old building at the site.
He added that an amount of Rs.54.95 lakh had been sanctioned to the Kerala Police Housing Construction Corporation from the police modernisation programme.
Mr. Chandy informed Attingal MLA B. Sathyan that the government was considering the possibility of starting work on a new fire station at Attingal this financial year.
Transport Minister V.S. Sivakumar informed the House that the construction of the new bus terminal complex at Thampanoor would be completed by June 30, 2012. Replying to Jameela Prakasam, C.K. Nanu, Jose Thettayil and Mathew T. Thomas, he said the work on the bus terminal complex at Kozhikode and Thiruvallam would also be completed next year.
