Thiruvananthapuram to host global eco meet

Leading international ecologists and experts are scheduled to participate in the International Conference on Ecosystem Conservation, Climate Change and Sustainable Development (ECOCASD 2013) beginning in Thiruvananthapuram on October 3 under the auspices of the Department of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries of the University or Kerala, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Kerala and Ambo University, Ethiopia.

As many as 500 delegates from India and abroad will make presentations on themes ranging from climate change to environmental laws, and waste management to environmental economics, a press note issued by the organisers said.

The three-day conference will be held at the Kottackattu Convention Centre, Nalanchira. Daniel Pauly, Professor, University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, will deliver the keynote address. Claude E. Boyd, Professor and Butler Cunningham Eminent Scholar at Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures, Auburn University, USA; Jorg Freyhof, Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries, Berlin, and Bill Daniels, School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences, Auburn University are among those scheduled to participate.

A satellite symposium on the theme ‘Biodiversity conservation and documentation’ will be held at the Sree Ayyappa College for Women, Nagercoil on October 4, the press note added.
