It lasted barely half an hour, but the impact lingered, bringing a welcome relief to the city that was wilting under a scorching sun. The late evening showers on Thursday ensured that the sapping heat that had made even nights in the city a testing affair stood away, at least for a brief while.
The showers, which began quite strongly around 6.15 p.m. and gradually drizzled to an end about 30 minutes later, took many by surprise.
Meanwhile, the evening showers were more than enough for several roads in the city to be inundated, albeit for short durations. While the roads near the Ganapathi temple at Pazhavangadi, the Parthas road and a few others in the city were waterlogged for some time, several lanes at Manacaud were partially submerged for more than two hours after the rain. The roads to the Attukal temple and the Manacaud-Kalippankulam road were among these. There were brief power outages, with several areas in Sreekaryam and Kazhakuttam area calling KSEB offices report disruptions in power supply.
