Thiruvananthapuram bags Union government award

Selected as 'best city' in State for implementation of schemes of Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation

The capital city has been selected as the ‘best city’ in the State for its implementation of various schemes of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.

President Pranab Mukherjee presented the award to Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar and Mayor K. Chandrika at a function at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

Housing

The city was selected for the award for its efforts in community mobilisation and for using cost-effective technologies in the housing sector under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Girija Vyas was the chief guest.

She presented the books, ‘Housing in India-2013,’ and ‘State of the Urban Poor’ to Mr. Mukherjee.
