Thiruvananthapuram archbishop asks for relook at natural disaster list

September 08, 2013 11:07 am | Updated June 07, 2016 07:10 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Archbishop of Thiruvananthapuram M. Susapakiam has said the Central government should take a re-look at its stance that sea erosions and lightning deaths will not be included in the list of natural disasters eligible for assistance under the national disaster management funds.

Inaugurating a Raj Bhavan march organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Matsyathozhilali Forum here on Friday, the Archbishop said that the stance of the Centre was unfortunate because farmers and fishermen, who depended on nature for a livelihood, were the most affected by such disasters.

Forum director Fr. Matthias, Thiruvananthapuram Archdiocese Vicar General Eugene Pereira, and others were present at the Raj Bhavan march.
