Fifth international documentary and short film festival concludes
The Rat Race directed by Miriam Chandy Menacherry, which tells the story of rat killers in Mumbai, won the award for the best long documentary at the Fifth International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, which concluded here on Tuesday.
The best film in the short fiction category went to Bombay Snow directed by Chinmay Nagesh Dalvi. Karim Baber by Tushar B. More was chosen the best animation film.
The best music video award was bagged by Viveka Chauhan for the video Inspirations. One Rupee Tip directed by Rojin Thomas was adjudged the best campus film.
In the documentary section, the best short documentary award went to I am Micro directed by Shumona Goel and Shai Heredia. The Navroz Contractor Award for the best cinematography went to Sunny Lahiri for Five Elements.
Jury special mention
Rizwaz directed by Deepthi Kurana and Sattu's Goggles directed by Shaheen Muhammed received jury special mention under the short fiction category.
Under the long documentary section, Earth Witness: Reflection on the Times and Timeless directed by Akansha Joshi received special mention.
Five Elements by Mohan Kumar Valsala and Girl with the Kite directed by Walter D'Cruz won special mention of the jury under the short documentary section.
The function was inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and the awards were distributed by Minister for Cinema K.B. Ganesh Kumar. The awards included a certificate of merit and cash prize.
Mr. Ganesh Kumar said plans were on the anvil to set up a new film archive unit at Munnar.
He also submitted a proposal to the Chief Minister to set up a film festival complex in the capital city.
Shashi Tharoor, MP; Kerala Chalachitra Academy Chairman Priyadarshan; jury member chairman and filmmaker Jayaraj; and filmmaker Amar Kanwar spoke at the function.
Noted filmmakers Adela Peeva and Amar Kanwar were felicitated. The ceremony was followed by screening of the award-winning films and documentaries.
