The influence of viewing habits on life

June 17, 2014 05:38 pm | Updated 05:38 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

A book release function at the Press Club on Monday was a testimony to how prolific the National Award-winning film critic V.K. Joseph is. Three of his books, all studies and critiques on various aspects of cinema collated from his writings in recent times, were released at this function.

The first of the books ‘Kazhchayude Samskaaravum Podhubodha Nirmithiyum, described by the writer as an introduction to a study which needs to be conducted, was released by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member M.A. Baby, by handing over a copy to writer and critic K.E.N. Kunjahammed.

Mr. Baby said the book explored the influence of viewing habits in every aspect of one’s life. “This is a good time to remember movies such as Zoltan Fabri’s Two half times in hell and its remake Escape to victory starring Pele. In this book, Mr. Joseph has written some beautiful studies on classics such as Cinema Paradiso . Reading about some of these reminded me of the times when I watched these films, for example memories of watching Cinema Paradiso with actor Murali and how he embraced me for showing this film to him,”Mr. Baby said.

The second book, ‘Athijeevanathinte chalachithrabhashyangal,’ was released by Swami Sandeepanandagiri by handing over a copy to writer Usha S. Nair. “There is a perception that Swamis do not watch films. But I do take my time out to visit film festivals and catch the classics,” said Swami Sandeepanandagiri. The third book, ‘Cinemayile Penperuma,’ was released by T.N. Seema, MP, by handing over a copy to writer P.S. Sreekala.
