Tension at Kochuthura

Tension prevailed at Kochuthura, near Kanjiramkulam, here on Sunday after two groups belonging to the same community clashed over a plot of land where a religious symbol was about to be installed.

The police said both groups were from the same religious institution but belonged to two adjacent residential areas. The controversy was over the installation of a religious symbol on a plot of land between the residential areas. The situation saw over 1,000 people, including women, from both sides almost reaching fisticuffs, the police said.Truce talks

Representatives of both sides have been summoned to the Kanjiramkulam police station for truce talks led by N. Jayakumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Neyyattinkara).
