Team to study Vizhinjam rail link

December 27, 2013 01:33 pm | Updated 01:33 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Misra visited Vizhinjam on Tuesday to examine the alignment selected for the rail link to the port proposed to be built there.

The study for the alignment of the rail link was done by Railway Vikas Nigam Limited.

Initially, the plan was to have the rail link along the Vizhinjam- Balaramapuram- Neyyattinkara route.

Since it involved displacement for too many people, the alignment was changed to take the Vizhinjam- Balaramapuram- Nemon route.

Proposal

The proposal for the rail link would soon be submitted to Railways for approval, A.S. Suresh Babu, managing director and chief executive officer, Vizhinjam International Seaports Limited, said.

Rakesh Agrawal, Divisional Manager (Thiruvananthapuram), Southern Railway, and senior railway engineers accompanied Mr. Misra during his examination of the alignment proposed for the rail link.
