86-year-old elephant Dakshayani given the title of ‘Gajamuthassi’

The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) honoured its 86-year old elephant Dakshayani with the title of ‘Gajamuthassi.’

Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran inaugurated the function held at the Devaswom Board headquarters in Nanthencode on Wednesday.

Forests Minister K.Raju honoured the elephant with the ‘Gajamuthassi’ title.

Postal cover

The Thiruvananthapuram South Postal Division released a special postal cover with the picture of the elephant for the occasion.

The cover is priced at Rs.100 and is available at the Philatelic Bureau in Thiruvananthapuram GPO and also at the Poojapura HO. The elephant’s mahout and helpers Ayyappan Nair, Muraleedharan Nair, Sundaresan Nair and Mukesh were also honoured at the function.
