The City police have launched a crackdown of snooker clubs functioning without authorisation and acting as a cover of illegal activities.

Surprise raids were conducted on many snooker clubs, leading to the detection of various irregularities. The police team led by Assistant Commissioner (Control Room) V. Suresh Kumar, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police G. Jayadev, found that many such clubs were operating without licence.

A snooker club near PMG Junction was asked to shut down after the police seized ganja from the premises. Having registered a case, the Museum police have commenced investigation into the incident.

The inspections were launched on the basis of information that such clubs had, of late, begun to facilitate the sale of marijuana, liquor and other narcotic substances. Closure notices will be issued to establishments found guilty of violating rules, the police said.
