Sudheeran opposes new panel on Endosulfan

November 10, 2010 08:46 pm | Updated 08:46 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran has expressed his opposition to the appointment of a committee, headed by C.D. Mayee to study the health issues related to the use of Endosulfan in Kasaragod.

In a letter to Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar, Mr. Sudheeran pointed out that Dr. Mayee had earlier headed a committee in 2004 and had come out with a report that did not find any link between Endosulfan and the health problems in Kasaragod in spite of innumerable evidence to the contrary.

Urging the Union Minister to withdraw from the move to appoint the Mayee committee, Mr. Sudheeran said the move would have no credibility and cannot render justice to the victims and would end up ridiculing the suffering people.

The earlier two committees headed by Dr. Mayee and O.P. Dubey had rejected any link between Endosulfan and the health disorders, in contradiction to all the reports of various medical teams appointed to study the disorders, including the one conducted by the National Institute of Occupational Health, an ICMR body, he said.
