The Road Safety Club of St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School here will organise a series of awareness drives, as part of >Road Safety Week from January 1 to 7, to reduce the number of traffic-related accidents.
At a press conference at Press Club on Wednesday, student representatives of the club highlighted the numerous traffic violations on city roads and gave suggestions on easing the situation, emphasising on facilities for pedestrians.
Students had gone around the city and taken photographs of blatant traffic violations, including of cars parked on footpaths. “Since a large number of new vehicles are being registered every year, >parking facilities must be provided accordingly,” said a club member.
Hoardings eating up space on busy junctions too found a mention in their report. The students will speak to Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Limited (TRDCL) project director Anil Kumar Pandala about the violations and will put across their suggestions. Mr. Pandala will conduct a road safety seminar at 2 p.m. on January 4 at the St. Joseph’s school.
The students will work with Toonz Academy to produce animated clippings on road safety and will organise an inter-school quiz competition on Thursday and Saturday. They will also mark white lines on humps along the Pattoor-Moolavilakom-Thampuranmukku stretch.
