Streetlights to be made operational

July 24, 2011 02:14 pm | Updated 02:14 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Mayor K. Chandrika said here on Saturday that all streetlights in the city would be made operational soon in view of the ‘Karkidakavavu' and the Ramzan and Onam festivals.

She was addressing a meeting of ward councillors and engineers from the Kerala State Electricity Board at the Government Guest House to discuss the problems relating to the replacement of damaged streetlights in many parts of the city.

Councillors complained that the delay in replacing streetlights had left many parts of their wards in darkness. The meeting decided to request the Electricity Minister to convene a conference involving the Mayor, KSEB chairman and Chief Engineer, chairmen of standing committees of the Corporation and leaders of political parties, to discuss the issue and find a solution.

Chairman of the standing committee on works V.S. Padmakumar presided over the meeting. Deputy Mayor G. Happikumar, chairpersons of standing committees Palayam Rajan, S. Pushpalatha, Shajitha Nasser and Vanaja Rajendra Babu, UDF council party leader Johnson Joseph and BJP leader P.Ashok Kumar were present.
