Work is on to distribute identity cards to all eligible street vendors in urban areas of the State under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending ) Act, 2014.

The cards are being given to street vendors found eligible in surveys undertaken by Kudumbasree in all urban areas as part of the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM).

The distribution of the cards was expected to be completed by October 31, a statement from the Kudumbasree executive director said. The survey found 19,863 street vendors in 93 towns in the State.

Of these, 16,896 were men, one transgender, and the remaining women.

Handed over

The cards have been handed over to 1,924 street vendors in 11 municipal areas. In towns that are part of the NULM, ways to improve living standards of vendors have been included in schemes launched to support them.

Besides basic facilities in street-vending zones, training programme to enhance the vendors’ skills will also be held.
