The government will open discussions with banks on enhancing the education loan for medical students who gained admission in the year 2018-19, Health Minister K.K. Shylaja informed the Assembly on Wednesday.
Replying to a submission moved by V.D.Satheesan, she said the government had also decided to appoint a senior counsel to fight the case filed before the Supreme Court by self-financing colleges seeking higher fees.
“The government had issued a gazette notification after the Fee Regulatory Committee for medical education fixed the fee at ₹4.5 lakh to ₹5.6 lakh for the academic year. Moves are afoot to initiate discussions with banks on enhancing the education loan for students. Yet the final decision on the fee depends on the Supreme Court ruling in the case,” she told the House.
