Steps to begin MBBS classes this year

Steps are being taken to launch MBBS classes at the new Government GH Medical College this year itself, a statement issued by the Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.

After assessing the progress of the construction of the academic block of the college, Mr. Sivakumar said that all facilities insisted on by the Medical Council of India for first year MBBS classes would be readied this month.

The construction of the training hall, dissection hall and the administrative block would be completed within a month. Work on the 1.38 lakh sq ft academic block buildings was being completed. The government had also created 108 posts of faculty and administrative staff as suggested by the MCI.

More posts would be created in a time-bound manner, he said.

A pathology lab and a minor operation theatre in connection with the casualty were being set up at GH. Ethylene Oxide (EtO) sterilisation unit, mobile x-ray unit and all medical equipment listed by the MCI would soon be acquired. MCI-listed facilities would be readied at the Women and Child hospital at Thycaud, which would be a part of the new GH MCH.
