The State has a political face which is unique in its own sense, Speaker G. Karthikeyan has said.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of the exhibition, ‘Niyamasabha Madhyamangalil,’ themed on the reportage on the Assembly over the years, organised in connection with the 125th anniversary celebrations of the House here on Sunday.
Mr. Karthikeyan said it was this unique political face of the State that had been captured in the frames and visuals on display at the exhibition, which wound up at 8 p.m. on Sunday after seven days. The citizens were taken through different phases of the nerve centre of the State’s polity, before democracy made its beginnings in the State, before Independence, after the birth of the State, and through the crucial landmarks in its history.
Mr. Karthikeyan, who lauded the media for coming up with rare visuals that captured the essence of the last 125 years of the Assembly, said in a lighter vein that the changes were visible even in the people who were part of the Assembly, including himself.
“I could not recognise myself in a photograph from 1982,” he said, adding that the culmination of the 125th anniversary celebrations would be in September, for which preparations were already on.
Deputy Speaker N. Shaktan spoke. Representatives of media houses that had participated in the exhibition, including The Hindu , The New Indian Express, The Times of India, Desabhimani, Madhyamam, Janayugom, Mathrubhumi, Kerala Kaumudi, Mangalam, Malayala Manorama, Veekshanam and Chandrika , were presented with mementoes while winners of various competitions organised by the media houses were presented with gifts on the occasion.
