: A 44-year-old man, who was active in the city’s film circuit as the district president of the fans’ association of a Malayalam superstar, has been held by the Karamana police on charges of thefts committed over the past 10 years.

According to the police, Raj Babu alias Binu, a resident of Avanakuzhi, was active in movie circles, and used to flaunt his identity card of the fans’ association when he was stopped by the police during routine night inspections. However, his activities were not confined to movies alone. A team of the Shadow Police deputed by City Police Commissioner H. Venkatesh to look into several unsolved theft cases, found Raj Babu’s involvement in single-man burglaries across the city.

Raj Babu was arrested by the Vizhinjam police in 1993 for a burglary attempt, after which he managed to keep his role in the unsolved thefts a secret and was never caught. The post-arrest interrogation, according to the police, has revealed his role in theft cases in various places, including Karamana, Pappanamcode, Vazhuthacaud, Poojapura and Thycaud.
