The stamp released by the Postal Department to mark the 125 anniversary of the State Assembly is a great recognition to the Assembly, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.
After receiving the stamp from Chief Post Master General Shanti Nair at a function held at the banquet hall of the Assembly on Wednesday, Mr. Chandy said the House, which witnessed the piloting of a number of bills and serious discussions and set a model for other States, had a historical significance too. In two years, Finance Minister K.M. Mani would set a record of representing a segment for 50 years and become part of history. A special function should be held in honour of Mr. Mani, he said.
The audience received the announcement with an applause and said that a stamp too should be released on the occasion.
Speaker G. Karthikeyan, in his presidential address, said that the Assembly which reflected the desires, agony and crises of the common man, had given due focus to the development of the State too.
The Assembly, which started functioning during the launch of the renaissance movement, should introspect about its functions.
Deputy Speaker N. Sakthan welcomed and Legislature Secretary P.D. Sarngadharan proposed a vote of thanks. Ministers and legislators attended the function.
