A commemorative postage stamp featuring freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Travancore-Cochin C. Kesavan was released by Governor P. Sathasivam here on Wednesday.
Law and Culture Minister A.K. Balan received the stamp and the first-day cover from the Governor at the function organised jointly by the Culture Department, Department of Posts, and the C. Kesavan Foundation.
The Governor said the release of the stamp was a fitting tribute to C. Kesavan and added that it was, in fact, an honour long overdue. Stamps, he said, could remind the new generation about the sacrifices of those who shaped the destiny of the nation and the world.
This commemorative stamp would help the new generation understand C. Kesavan’s glowing personality, his courage of conviction, and his commitment to society, Mr. Sathasivam said.
Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, Director of Public Relations T.V. Subash, and Chief Post Master General Shardha Sampath spoke.
So far, 49 commemorative stamps on Kerala have been brought out, 14 of them on personalities.
The C. Kesavan commemorative stamps is the 15th on a personality.
