Stale food was seized from two hotels in Kottayam Municipality during a raid conducted by a municipal health squad here on Thursday.

Municipal standing committee (health) chairman V. K. Anil Kumar, who led the raid, told The Hindu that stale food was seized from an Arabian restaurant and a tandoor restaurant and bakery, both of which are situated near the municipal office.

Stale flour

He said stale flour was found in the Arabian restaurant and confectionaries unfit for consumption were seized from the tandoor restaurant and bakery.

Drive to continue

Mr. Kumar said that a deadline has been set for the hotels to improve hygiene and food quality.

He said the municipality will go ahead with the drive to prevent unhygienic practices in eateries that could have adverse effects on consumers.

Health Inspector B.C. Anoop, Junior Health Inspectors Anju K. Thampi and Sunil also took part in the raids.
