District Collector K.N. Satheesh has ordered the formation of a special squad to detect the sale of untreated water to domestic consumers via tanker lorries.
Mr. Satheesh said there had been complaints from people that certain unscrupulous tanker lorry operators drew water from canals and ponds and sold it to domestic consumers claiming that it was treated and purified water purchased from the Kerala Water Authority.
On Sunday, a tanker lorry carrying untreated water was seized by the squad.
The lorry driver claimed that the water was intended for a construction site and not for drinking water purposes.
