Whenever Hijas visited the city, the huge five-storey Legislature complex always caught his attention. But on Tuesday, the boy from Kuttichal Panchayat got to get into the complex and make a detailed tour of it and even enjoy a special treat from Speaker G. Karthikeyan. All thanks to his good grades in the SSLC examination.

Hijas and 33 other students from various government schools in Aruvikkara constituency, who secured A plus in all subjects in this year’s SSLC examination, were felicitated by Speaker G. Karthikeyan at his official residence ‘Neethi’ here in the city.

Thirty four students from the regions of Vellanad, Aruvikkara, Aryanad, Kuttichal, Poovachal, Vithura, and Uzhamalackal accompanied by their parents and friends visited the Speaker. Mr. Karthikeyan congratulated them and asked them to repeat the same success in all the coming endeavours. He also assured them that all arrangements would be made so that students could make use of the facilities at the Legislature library. Speaker also presented them with some books.

Anu S. Jose, who was visiting the premises of Neeti for the first time, said she was never expecting such a gesture from the Speaker.

“We were presented with three books and we are happy we could meet him and interact with him,” said Anu, a student of Government Model Vocational Higher Secondary School, Vellanad.

Parents were happy that their children got the opportunity to visit the Speaker in person and interact with him.

“This is an inspiration for the students and a reward for their hard work. The children are very excited to meet the Speaker and also visit the Legislature complex,” said S. Rajasree, a parent.

The children also visited the Legislature museum, where history of the State’s law making body and its powers were explained to the students. Applauses also came in the form of a special personality development session for the students, following which they were treated to a sumptuous meal.
