A social tourism project, which will aim at reviving folk art forms in the State and promoting tourism based on such forms, was launched at Sai Gramam at Thonnakal here on Thursday.
Tourism Minister A.P. Anilkumar, launching the project, said the objective was to identify, revive, and promote art forms that were either on the verge of extinction or being neglected.
The Rs.4-crore project would be a joint effort of the State and Central governments and Rs.1.88 crore for the first phase had already been sanctioned. The art forms in focus would include ‘pulluvanpattu,’ ‘paavakoothu,’ and ‘kakkarissi’ plays. The project would look at offering lodging for artistes with their families.
