The Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam has decided not to favour any particular political front or to exhibit loyalties to any single party in the Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference here after a board meeting of the Yogam on Sunday, general secretary Vellappally Natesan said the organisation had decided to dissociate itself from all political colours since none of the political fronts in the State had done justice to the Ezhava community during the candidate selection process.
This was in contrast with the stance the SNDP had adopted during the previous Lok Sabha elections, when it had decided to appease none and at the same time, dissociate itself from none, and from the stance of 2006, when it issued internal circulars asking votes for the LDF.
Stating that the LDF and the UDF had failed to ensure social justice and had, in fact, cheated the Ezhava community, Mr. Natesan said directions had been issued to the local unions of the Yogam to advise community members to vote based on regional preferences, performance capabilities of each candidate, all without any discrimination of caste or creed.
On the polls, Mr. Natesan said he did not foresee a vast majority for either of the fronts. The UDF initially had an edge, but Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan had pulled matters back into the LDF court.
The LDF was undoubtedly fighting the elections standing under his shade and the “VS wave” would certainly affect voters who were unsure of whether to turn left or right, by making them vote for the Left, he added.
